Prof. Sunday E. Ododo, fsonta
President.

Sunday (Sunnie) Enessi Ododo is a Professor of Performance Aesthetics and Theatre Technology in the Department of Theatre Arts, University of Maiduguri, Maiduguri, Nigeria. His scholarly work has gained considerable attention, especially his ‘Facekuerade theory’, which derives from the maskless transformational practices of traditional Ebira masquerades (eku). He has also edited reputable journals like Alore: Ilorin Journal of the Humanities, The Performer: Ilorin Journal of the Performing Arts, Sino-US English Teaching Journal and US-China Foreign Language Journal. A good number of his essays have been published in journals in the USA, the UK, Japan and Nigeria, etc. With Duro Oni, he has co-edited Larger than his Frame: Critical Studies and Reflections on Olu Obafemi (2000) and Technical Theatre Practice in Nigeria: Trends and Issues (2006), He is on the editorial board of The Perfformio, a University of Wales online journal for the performing arts, (http://perfformio.org/default.aspx); and the editorial board of David Publishing Company, Libertyville, Illinois, USA.
In 2011 Ododo published a play Hard Choice which further brought him to literary limelight as a gifted playwright by winning the prestigious ANA Drama Prize in 2012. Apart from being a theatre scholar, screenwriter, actor, poet and technical theatre practitioner in his highly fecund career of about two decades, he is reputed to be the exponent of the Facekuerade theory in African Theatre Arts Studies. Beyond these, Ododo is a distinguished and versatile creative artist who has made modest contributions to the growth of literature and creative writing in Nigeria through his activities in the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) where he has served as Chief Judge of literary prizes and national Vice President. He also served as one of the Vice Presidents of the Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA). He remains a valued and respected icon in literary and theatre circles. He is the eight President of Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA).

Prof. Alex Asigbo,
Vice President, Administration and Policy.

Alexander Chinwuba Asigbo Oroma Etiti Anam in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State. He had his primary education at Hope Rising Primary School, Oroma Etiti Anam between 1975 and 1980. For his Secondary education, he attended Anam High School, Oroma Etiti Anam between 1981 and 1986 before proceeding to the University of Port Harcourt.
He was at the University of Port Harcourt between 1989 and 1994 where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Second Class Honours, Upper Division) in Theatre Arts. While at the University of Port Harcourt, he was not just the Editor-in-Chief of Association of Theatre Arts Students but also the Editor of the University of Port Harcourt Mirror – the official magazine of the University of Port Harcourt Student Affairs Department. He then proceeded to Nigeria’s premiere University of Ibadan for his Master of Arts Degree in Theatre Arts in 1997. He holds a Ph.D in Performance Studies from the University of Ibadan. Asigbo who is also a Post Doctoral Fellow of the American Council of Learned Societies’ (FACLS) African Humanities Program (FAHP) as well as the Nigerian Institute of Corporate Administration (FCAI) has served as External Examiner to different Universities in Nigeria, among which are- Imo State University, Benue State University, University of Port Harcourt, University of Ibadan, University of Benin, etc. Elected Dean, Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, in October, 2012 he was also the National Social Secretary, Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA) 2001 – 2006; National Secretary, SONTA 2006-2011, Financial Secretary, SONTA, 2011 - 2013. Asigbo is also the National Public Relations Officer, Society of Non-Fiction Authors of Nigeria, (SONFAN) and the current National Vice President of the International Theatre Institute (ITI); National Secretary, International Association of Theatre Critics (IATC) as well as the 1st Vice President, Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists. He was inducted into the SONTA Hall of Fame with a Life Time Achievement Award in 2011 (HSONTA). He has been the South East Zonal Co-coordinator for Abuja Carnival from 2009 to 2011 as well as a member of the Anambra State Central Planning Committee on Mmechi Aro Anambra (Anambra Home Coming Festival) 2010.
He has also been the Secretary General of Oroma Etiti Development Union since 2008; Chairman, Anam Peoples’ Assembly, Awka Branch from 2009 to date; Member of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Senate and Visiting Adjunct Professor to Imo State University, Owerri.
Asigbo has also been on the NUC panel of Experts for the accreditation of Theatre and Arts programs in different Nigerian Universities. His published plays include, Fate of an Orphan & Obidike: the Last Warrior (2000); Once Upon a School (2001); War of the Tin Gods (2002/2008), The Reign of Pascal Amusu (2008) among others. His over forty Publications have appeared in both National and International Journals. Between 2009 and 2010 he spent his Sabbatical leave at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi where he helped to set up the Department of Theatre and Cultural Studies. It is in recognition of his numerous academic successes that the Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, promoted him to the rank of Professor with effect from 1st October, 2009.

   

Dr. Tor J. Iorapuu,
Vice President, Programmes and Projects.


Dr. Tor Iorapuu Joseph hails from Aliade, Benue State, Nigeria. He attended the College of Education, Kastina Ala, Benue State and then the University of Jos and has served his alma mater as a member of faculty. Currently, he is an Associate Professor and Head, Department of Theatre and Film Arts, University of Jos. Dr Tor Iorapuu has done a lot of work on Theatre for Development (TfD) right from his days at the College of Education Katsina Ala up to his current position at the University of Jos. Because of his commitment to influencing change in society beyond curricular requirements, he has provided leadership in the founding and running of Youth, Adolescent, Reflection and Action Centre (YARAC) in Jos. Dr Iorapuu has served SONTA in several capacities for a period of over a decade, and is the outgoing Editor. During his tenure as editor, the SONTA journal which is a selection of papers presented in annual conferences have been published without failing. He is a winner of the SONTA 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award.

   

Prof. Samuel Ayedime Kafewo
Secretary General.

Samuel Ayedime Kafewo is a Professor of Theatre & Media Studies with the Department of Theatre and Performing Arts, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. He joined the services of the university in 1992 and has served as head of Drama, Postgraduate Coordinator, Member University Senate & Congregation, member University Documentation Committee where he has produced several documentaries that have been aired on national television, being a faculty representative on several committees and currently the head, Department of Theatre and Performing Arts.
Kafewo has taught and examined undergraduate and postgraduate courses for over two decades and has attended several national and international conferences and workshops.
He has published extensively in local and international journals among which are the Nigerian Theatre Journal, New Theatre Quarterly, and Journal of Reproductive Health Matters, Network 2000 USA, Canadian Journal of Comparative Literature, SAFARA based in the University Of Gason Berger Senegal. His areas of research interest include among others Popular/Theatre for Development, representation of women in the media-Film and television, Theatre history and dramatic theory and criticism.
He has served as member, college of Screeners for the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMA) for years. He has also attended film festivals at home and abroad among which are FESPACO and Zuma.

   

Dr. Gowon Ama Doki,
Asst. Secretary General.

Dr. Gowon Ama Doki, a Theatre Semiotician, Critic, Theorist was born on the 19th March, 1972 at Tsar, Mbaduku, in Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State. An Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre Arts, Benue State University, the silently achieving Gowon after his secondary education at Government Day Secondary School, Makurdi, gained admission into the much coveted University of Jos, in 1992 where he studied Theatre and graduated in 1995 with a Second Class Upper Division degree. He is the Head, Department of Theatre Arts, Benue State University, and is also currently serving a second term as Deputy Dean, Faculty of Arts. Dr Doki has contributed over forty well researched articles and book chapters both locally and nationally. He has also convened and attended several conferences/workshops both within and outside the country. Dr. Doki has excelled in community service holding several elected positions and served as adjudicator/judge in several social meets including Abuja Carnival, Miss Benue Beauty Pageant, Benue Youth Carnival, Kwaghhir Festival, and so on. Dr. Gowon Ama Doki is happily married to Dr. Naomi Onyeje Doki of Economics Department, Benue State University and they have four children. He has travelled to United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, South Africa, Uganda, Ghana and Ethiopia.

   

Dr. Mariam A. Iyeh,
Treasurer.

Mariam Asabe Iyeh was born on the 5th of july 1969 in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. She started exhibiting intrest in in dance early in life starting from her days as a pupil in Bishop Smith's Memoial Primary School, Illorin, where she participated and led different dance groups to inter-school competitions in the late 1970's. She also was notable for her active participation in different ethnic dance as a student in Egbe Girls College between 1980 and 1986.It was no suprise when she majored in dance in the Performing Arts Departments of the university of Illorin,which she crowned with a Ph.D degree in african dance from the institute of African studies, University of Ibadan. She has written and performed dances among which are "Efunsetan Aniwura:A Victim of Political Intrigues", a dance adaptation of Efusetan Aniwura by Ishola Akinsipe and Lola Adeoye; "Break a Boil" a dance adaptation of Sam Ukala's Break a Boil; "Bondage", "Sango", "The tragedy of a people", and others.
Dr (Mrs.) Iyeh teaches dance at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and is the current Head of Department. She has both local and international schorlarly articles to her credit. She is happily Married to Pastor A.N Iyeh and is blessed with children;Favour, Praise, Glory and Princewill.

   

DR. SURU DAMISA,
Financial Secretary.

Dr. Suru, Cyrus Damisa was born on 27th June, 1971. He is from Okene town in Kogi state, Nigeria. He is married and has three children.  He attended Government Secondary School, kontagora, Niger State and the University of Ilorin, Ilorin for his B.A. (2nd Class Upper Division, Best Graduate Student), M.A. and PhD degrees respectively in Performing Arts (Dance emphasis). He worked at Niger and Kogi State Arts Councils Minna/Lokoja as a Cultural Dancer/Officer and rose to become the Production Manager before proceeding to the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria, as an Assistant Lecturer and was subsequently promoted to Lecturer II. He currently teaches at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Nigeria, as Lecturer I. He is a member of the International Dance Council (CID), UNESCO, Society of Nigerian Theatre Artist (SONTA) and Society of Nigerian Dance Scholars (SONDANS). Phone: 08074505896 / 08035042011. SYLVANUS PHILIP DANGOJI,
PRO.

Sylvanus Philip DANGOJI hails from Bete in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, Nigeria. Born on 30th July 1970, he attended Tya Primary School Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. He started his secondary school education in 1981 at Saint John’s College, Jos, and completed it in 1986 at Yelwa Government Secondary School (now Aliyu Musdafa College,) Yola, in present day Adamawa State. He also sat for Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) Examinations at the then College of Preliminary Studies in Yola, in 1990 before gaining admission into Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a Bachalor of Arts degree in English, specializing in Dramatic Literature in 1994.
Mr Dangoji carried out his primary assignment of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) scheme at the Television Service of Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC) in Uyo, where he developed further, his interest in radio and television production, to which he was first introduced as part time artiste during the long vacation periods of his university days. He returned to his alma mater as a young academic staff in the faculty, and also continued his studies, eventually earning a Master of Arts degree in Drama in 2006 with research interest in Development Communication. He is working on his thesis for a Doctorate in Development Communication. He has presented papers in conferences and published others in academic journals in his areas of research interest.
Mr Dangoji is carrying out his principal responsibilities of teaching and research in the areas of dramatic literature, development communication, advertising, public relations as well as radio, film and television production & criticism. He is also involved in community service and development work through civil society organizations and activism. From all of these pursuits, he has developed and honed skills in advocacy, mediation, facilitation, conflict management and knowledge sharing. Among other civil society organizations in which he is active, he is currently on the Governing Council of Community Action for Popular Participation (CAPP) as the Internal Auditor. He is married to Mrs Christiana Dangoji and they have a daughter. Mr Dangoji is serving a second term in the Executive Committee of the Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA) as the Public Relations Officer, whose duties also include the publication of SONTA News.

   

Dr. AbdulRahseed Adeoye,
Events Manager.

Dr Abdulrasheed Abiodun Adeoye hails from Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State. He had his university education first at the University of Ilorin (where he obtained B.A. Performing Arts and then a master of Public Administration) as well as at the University of Ibadan where he obtained MA Theatre Arts PhD Theatre Arts. Dr Adeoye started lecturing at University of Uyo, Uyo, Nigeria since 1997. Afterwards, he been teaching Play Directing, Playwriting, Dramatic Literature, Acting, Theatre History, Media Arts, Performance Theories and Theatre Practical/Workshop courses in the Performing Arts Department, University of Ilorin, Ilorin since 1999 to date. At present, he is an Associate Professor and current Head of the Department of Performing Arts, University of Ilorin. He has served in the SONTA national executive committee for several years now, in offices that include Public Relations Officer, Financial Secretary and currently, Events Manager. He is a proud winner of the SONTA 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award.

   

Dr. Ameh D. Akoh,
Editor, Nigerian Theatre Journal.


Dr Ameh Akoh is an Associate Professor of Drama and Critical Theory, and the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Culture at the Osun State University, Nigeria. He attended the universities of Jos and Ibadan, Nigeria where he also taught for some years. He was Head of the Department of Languages and Linguistics of Osun State University (2010-2012); Sub-Dean (2006-2009) of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the Kogi State University, Anyigba, Nigeria where he taught for seven years. His areas of research interest include critical theory, dramatic Criticism, sociology of literature and theatre, gender and cultural Studies. He has over 40 publications in refereed local and international journals and books. He is the Editor of the Nigerian Journal of Indigenous Knowledge and Development, Co-editor of African Nebula and the Uni-Osun College of Humanities Monograph Series. He is listed in the Year’s Work in English Studies (YWES) Index of Critics. His two co-edited books, Arts, Culture and Communication in a Postcolony and Intersections in the Humanities, are already in press. Dr Akoh is a Fellow of the Corporate Administration Institute of Nigeria.

   

Prof. E. S. Dandaura, fsonta

Prof. Emmanuel S. Dandaura was the 7th National President of the Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA) and the current President of the Nigeria Section of the International Association of Theatre Critics with headquarters in France. He obtained his doctoral degree in Development Commuication from the University of Jos and post doctoral certifications in document and knowledge management from the UK digital academy. In the last two and half decades, Dandaura has functioned as examiner, assessor, and visiting Professor to many Universities in Africa and Europe.
As a Fellow of SONTA, he has been on many accreditation teams of the National Universities Commission to assess the quality of the academic programmes in sevaral Nigerian Universities. He is the Foundation Head of the Department of Theatre and Cultural Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi where he also doubles as the Head of Mass Communication Department and Chairman of the University Public Relations Committee. He is a seasoned film director, actor, designer and playwright.
His documentaries have won many national and international awards in the last two decades. His play Venom for Venom won the Best Playwright Award of the Abuja Writers Forum in 2008. He has served as development, entertainment and creative consultant to federal and state governments in Nigeria as well as international donor agencies like Ford Foundation, UNICEF, UNESCO and the Commonwealth Secretariat. His role as coordinating consultant to Nasarawa State Government on Culture and Tourism since 2008 has contributed greatly to the excellent results Nasarawa State has recorded in all competitive events it enter for in the arts and culture sector in Nigeria.
