The Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA) holds her 26th National Conference and Annual General Meeting at the Benue State University, Makurdi. The Conference under the theme “Quality Assurance: Theatre, Media and the Creative Enterprise” will hold from 4th to 7th June, 2013.

A statement issued by the Convener and Head, Department of Theatre Arts, Benue State University, Dr. Gowon Ama Doki, says the Conference is designed to take a critical examination of society in the general, the arts theatre, media and the creative industry in particular with a view to appraising the manner of practice over the years and the attendant outcomes. As a Society, if SONTA must reserve the moral rectitude to pass informed judgement on the creative industries, a critical look must be taken at its work since it is the Society that trains the very practitioners in the field. The Conference will therefore focus on how to deliver competency-based curriculum and ultimately the implication of that for the creative industries in Nigeria. This will be achieved by answering these questions: what do we teach and research? How do we ensure the adherence to basic minimum standards in teaching and research? What are the implications of the way we operate in relation to the output? How do we ensure standards in our film, video and the media and the creative industries generally? Well researched papers on the entire gamut of the teaching and practice of theatre and all related arts in our Universities and the subsequent practice on the field will be entertained at the Conference.

Basically, critical issues will be interrogated at the conference under the following subthemes:

  • ·         Quality Assurance in the Creative Industries: Policy Framework
