Professor Osakue Stevenson Omoera received his PhD from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Currently, he teaches and conducts research in applied media, film and theatre studies at Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Nigeria.

The foci of his research have been in three main areas: Nollywood studies, with an emphasis on indigenous language films; media sociology, with an emphasis on the social impacts of the media in developing areas of the world, including Nigeria; and cultural dynamics, with an emphasis on theatre and African performance studies.

Omoera is credited to have pioneered scholarly inquiry into Benin film in Nollywood studies and continues to probe the culture and practice of Nigerian cinema. As well, he developed the “Active Volcano Paradigm” for the study of English as a language of mass communication, about the Nigerian media ecosystem. He teaches and mentors undergraduate and postgraduate students in universities in Nigeria and abroad, and engages in community service in local communities in Nigeria.

He is extensively published, and widely travelled and has served as a resource person to national and international organisations such as National Film and Video Censors’ Board (NFVCB), Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC), National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), European Union Technical Assistance to Nigeria’s Evolving Security Challenges (EUTANS) Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Media Roundtable, among others. Omoera is a Fellow of the Institute of Mass Communication and Information Management of Nigeria (IMIM); a Fellow of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP); a member of the Society of Nigerian Theatre Artistes (SONTA); Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN); Association of Media and Communication Researchers of Nigeria (AMCRON); the Arts Council of the African Studies Association (ACASA), USA; and the Association for Cultural Studies (ACS), Finland.

He has sat on the boards of local and international journals and organizations such as EJOTMAS; Iroro; Otukpa; AM Journal of Art and Media Studies, University of Arts, Belgrade, Serbia, the International Journal of Research and Review (TIJRR), MLS Centre, Sydney; International Journal of Current Research in the Humanities (IJCRH), University of Cape Coast, Ghana; TELOS: Revista Cientifica Arbitrada, Universidad Dr Rafael Belloso Chacin (URBE), Venezuela; the Journal of Society and Media, Universitas Negeri (UNESA), East Java, Indonesia; Umẹwaẹn: Journal of Benin and Edo Studies, State University of New York, Oswego, NY, USA ;   SARARI: Bayero Journal of Theatre and Performing Arts, Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria; African Update, Central Connecticut State University, CT, USA, among others. He is the current editor of the Nigerian Theatre Journal (NTJ), the flagship journal of SONTA.

Some of his works have been translated into languages such as Edo (Benin), Igbo, Korean, Brazil Portuguese, Bahasa Indonesia, Russian and Spanish.
