Prof. Gowon Ama Doki, a Theorist and Critic with specializations in performance aesthetics, is a Professor in the Department of Theatre Arts, Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi; a Department he headed for two consecutive terms. He is the immediate past Dean, Student Affairs Division of BSU, having earlier served as Deputy Dean, Faculty of Arts for another two terms.
Doki has contributed over fifty well researched articles and chapters in journals and books both within and outside the country. His book, Traditional Theatre in Perspective, remains a reference document for students and researchers on traditional theatre aesthetics. He has convened and attended several conferences/workshops, both within and outside the country; and he sits on several journal boards either as Editor, Editorial Consultant, or Member of Editorial Advisory Committee. He is currently on sabbatical leave to the Department of Theatre and Cultural Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK).
Prof. Gowon Ama Doki is widely travelled and loves watching and playing football as well as listening to traditional music. He is happily married to Dr. Naomi Onyeje Doki, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics, Benue State University; and their marriage is blessed with children.
