CITATION ON PROF ALEX CHINWUBA ASIGBO
Alexander Chinwuba Asigbo is a Playwright, Director, Actor Trainer, Critic, Culture Consultant and Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
Born on the 12th of November, 1969 at Oroma Etiti, Anam, in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State, he took his 1st Degree in Theatre Arts (2nd Class Honours, Upper Division) from the University of Port Harcourt in 1994.
He thereafter proceeded to the University of Ibadan, where he took both his Master’s and PhD. He joined the services of UNIZIK in 1999 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2009.
He is a 2010 Postdoctoral Fellow of the American Council of Learned Societies’ African Humanities Program; Fellow of the Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists; Fellow, Nigerian Academy of Letters and Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration. He is a versatile and prolific scholar with over ninety (100) publications – Journals, Book Chapters and Books in reputable outlets from all over the world.
He has supervised 18 PhDs to completion; assessed very many candidates for the Professorial cadre as well as examined many Postgraduate and undergraduate students across many Nigerian Universities. He was the 23rd Inaugural Lecturer of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in 2013.
He was Dean, Faculty of Arts, 2012-2014; Director, Centre for Arts, Culture and Humanities, 2014-2019; Director, TETFUND Implementation Committee, 2016-2019; Head, Theatre Arts Dept, 2017-2019; President, SONTA, 2017-2021. He is currently, Director, School of General Studies, UNIZIK.
