Gowon Ama Doki is a Professor of Theatre Arts with the Department of Theatre Arts, Benue State University, Makurdi. He is the Immediate Past Dean, the Faculty of Arts of the University and currently serves as a member of Governing Council of the Same University, representing Congregation. Professor Doki is the current President Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA).
He is widely published with research expertise and interests in Performance Aesthetics, Performative Traditions and Nigerian Traditional Theatre.
His book, Traditional Theatre in Perspective, remains a major contribution to critical studies in indigenous theatre forms, while his inaugural lecture titled Everyday Life is Theatre is a masterpiece in performance and performative canonization.
As an expert and consultant to National Institute for Cultural Orientation, Professor Doki, in 2019, facilitated the inscription of the Tiv Kwagh-hir on the representative list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Bogota, Colombia. He is widely travelled and enjoys reading, watching and playing football.
He is happily married to Dr Naomi Doki, an Associate Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics, Benue State University, Makurdi and the union is blessed with lovely children.
